No woman should die while giving life.

On National Safe Motherhood Day, the focus is on ensuring access to quality care across the entire continuum from pregnancy to childbirth and beyond.

For over three decades, ARFH has supported Nigeria’s health system through:

  • Strengthening human resource capacity for health
  • Training frontline healthcare providers using competency-based approaches
  • Expanding access to family planning and birth spacing services
  • Supporting Basic Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (BEmONC) and strengthening referral linkages to Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (CEmONC) services
  • Driving community-based interventions that reach underserved populations

Through these efforts, access to life-saving maternal and newborn health services continues to improve, especially for women in hard-to-reach communities, contributing to the reduction of preventable maternal deaths.

Safe motherhood is a right, not a privilege.
