The Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), with support from UNESCO, officially handed over IEC materials under the O3 Project – Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future to the Osun State Government to strengthen Family Life and HIV Education (FLHE) and adolescent wellbeing across the state.
The materials, including over 700 teaching aids and flip charts as well as more than 2,000 posters, support interventions on GBV, FGM, safe schools, Family Life and HIV education (FLHE).
The presentation was received by Mr. M.A.K Jimoh, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, alongside Mr. Kareem, Director of Private Schools; Mrs. Orimogunje, Director, Osun State Mass Education Agency (OSMEA); Mr. Abiona, Director SMT; Mr. Mayowa Oyetunji, Director of Basic Education; and Obasola Solomon, SA Education.
Representing ARFH were Samson Odukogbe, Senior Knowledge and Communications Officer; Mr. Ogbonmide, State Programme Officer; and Adetoyi Temitope, Assistant Programme Officer.
The Permanent Secretary appreciated UNESCO and ARFH for the continued partnership and noted the visible positive impact of the project across Osun State, expressing hope for sustained implementation and greater reach.
As part of the engagement, the team also visited Osun Unity School Osogbo and the School for Persons with Special Needs, where teachers demonstrated the use of the materials for classroom learning and edutainment. Teachers described the materials as timely and highly relevant, while school leadership highlighted that FLHE is now integrated into classroom sessions, assembly talks, and even impactful songs promoting the prevention of GBV and other social issues.
Speaking during the event, Samson Tolulope Odukogbe reaffirmed ARFH’s commitment to supporting adolescent health, education, and safe learning environments while appreciating the Osun State Government for creating an enabling environment for impactful interventions.
Mr. Mayowa Oyetunji also highlighted the remarkable achievements of the project among adolescents and young people in the state, while Mr. Ogbonmide provided further insights into the content and importance of the IEC materials.
Through phases 1 and 2 of the O3 Project, ARFH with support from UNESCO have trained over 3,000 teachers on FLHE, engaged community and religious leaders, reached more than one million young people across 10 LGAs in Osun State, and strengthened youth-friendly healthcare services through the training of nurses and healthcare workers.
