As part of ongoing technical assistance under the GAVI-funded HPV Vaccine project, implemented in partnership with VillageReach, ARFH conducted a strategic visit to Kano State to support routine HPV vaccine delivery, multi-sectoral coordination, and data systems strengthening.
We appreciate the leadership of Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Honourable Commissioner for Health, and Dr. Nasir Mahmud, Director General, SPHCMB, for their strong and reinforced commitment to championing the vaccination of eligible girls across the state. We acknowledge the support of Hon. Wada Ibrahim Daho, Permanent Secretary representing the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, for his commitment to strengthening school-based platforms and enabling continued cross-sectoral collaboration.
The team also engaged with Dr. Ibrahim Gano, Director of Public Health & DC-SMOH; Dr Sheriff Yahaya Kura Director Disease control, Immunization and Epidemiology; Auwal Muhammad, Programme Manager, SERICC; Alhaji Mustapha Mahmud Ahmad, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Primary Healthcare Matters; and other key actors to align on vaccination challenges, data-driven analysis for prioritizing LGAs, data triangulation, supportive supervision, and intensified community mobilization. Special thanks to Bashir AlHassan M., SERICC Deputy PM and state HPVV Focal Person, for facilitating inter-agency coordination, field activities and key insights throughout the visit.
Facility visits to Gwagwarwa PHC (Nasarawa LGA) and Jigana Clinic (Gezawa LGA) allowed for cross-checking HPV data across tally sheets, MSF tools, and DHIS2; highlighting the need for refresher training on validation and documentation.
The team also participated in the NIPDs microplanning meeting, where ARFH emphasized integrating HPV vaccine delivery into broader immunization efforts.
Together with state leadership and partners, ARFH remains committed to eliminating cervical cancer-one girl at a time.
