INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO TOLERANCE FOR FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION (FGM)

Theme: Towards 2030: No End to FGM Without Sustained Commitment and Investment

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a harmful practice that violates the rights, health, and dignity of women and girls, with lifelong physical, mental, and reproductive health consequences.

Ending FGM by 2030 requires sustained political will, adequate investment, strong systems, and community action. Governments, traditional and religious leaders, gatekeepers, civil society, and development partners must work together to challenge harmful norms and protect girls.

At ARFH, we address FGM through integrated, community-based approaches. Through initiatives such as the Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) project under the UN-supported National COVID-19 Multi-Sectoral Pandemic Response, ARFH strengthened community champions, health workers, and peer educators to prevent GBV, support girls at risk, and link survivors to SRH and psychosocial services.

Ending FGM is possible but only with continued commitment and investment. Together, we can safeguard progress and protect every girl.
