FG, Partners Launch $25 Million Fund to Combat Tuberculosis in Nigeria

In a milestone event on July 12th, 2024, the Federal Government, alongside Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, launched a groundbreaking $25 million Private Sector Strategy to combat Tuberculosis (TB) in Nigeria. Held at Red Restaurant in Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, the event convened key dignitaries including the Honorable Minister of Health and Social Welfare Muhammad Ali Pate, the Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, and representatives from private sector organizations, development partners, public health practitioners, and the media.

“This occasion marks a significant leap in our battle against TB,” stated Dr. Queen Ogbuji-Ladipo, Acting Board Chair of Stop TB Partnership Nigeria. “TB, a curable disease, has inflicted untold suffering in our communities. Through advocacy and collaboration with state and non-state actors, Stop TB Partnership Nigeria has made remarkable strides.”

The newly launched strategy aims to mobilize stakeholders and resources, spearheaded by Stop TB Partnership Nigeria and supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. It emphasizes a multi-sectoral approach to enhance innovation and expand access to TB services.

“We urge every private sector entity to join us,” Dr. Ogbuji-Ladipo urged. “Together, we can drive policy reforms, increase investment, and consign TB to history.”

The event concluded with a call to action, rallying stakeholders to unite in the fight against TB. This collaboration promises tangible results in Nigeria’s path to a TB-free future.
