CODSAiN Project: Capacity Building of LGA Health Educators on Integrated Demand Generation in Enugu State, Lagos, Niger and Plateau States

ARFH Nigeria made significant strides in advancing access to self-injection (SI) as a family planning method for women of reproductive age. As part of the Community-Oriented DMPA-SC Self-Injection Acceleration (CODSAiN) Project, ARFH Nigeria organized a crucial training session for Health Educators and their assistants from all LGAs in Enugu State. This training emphasized the benefits of self-injection, empowering women to take control of their reproductive health.

The event saw the participation of key attendees, including Dr. Ifenyinwa Ani-Osheku, Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Agency; Dr. Onyia Eucharia from the National Orientation Agency, Nigeria; Mrs. Maureen Nwankwo, Family Planning Coordinator; Mrs. Nsude Ukamaka, State Health Educator; Mrs. Francesca Ezejiofor, state adhoc staff; and Nasa Oyelade, ARFH Demand Generation Officer who co-facilitated the training.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of LGA Health Promotion Officers to implement effective and comprehensive demand-generation strategies and foster collaboration between health promotion and family planning programs. This initiative supports women in accessing self-injection methods easily and confidently, reinforcing their ability to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.

Empowering Health Educators on Integrated Demand Generation on Family Planning in Lagos State

The Community-Oriented DMPA-SC Self-Injection Acceleration in Nigeria (CODSAiN) project, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and implemented by ARFH Nigeria, recently held a transformative 2-day training session in Lagos State. This initiative aims to promote DMPA-SC self-injection among women of reproductive age, particularly in hard-to-reach communities, by enhancing the acceptance and availability of family planning services.

The training focused on empowering Health Promotion and Health Education Officers with comprehensive demand-generation strategies. These strategies are designed to optimize the uptake of family planning services, particularly DMPA-SC self-injection, and integrate self-care practices within the broader contraceptive method mix.

In attendance were notable stakeholders such as Dr. Abimbola Bowale, the Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Onyinye Ofoegbu-Jonathan, Representative of the Health Promotion Department at the Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Hanfor, the Director of Health Education at LSPHCB, various District Directors of Health Education, the LSPHCB Reproductive Health Officer Representative, Dr. Kehinde Osinowo, ARFH CEO, Dr. Uba Sabo, the Program Manager of the CODSAiN Project, and Fashoto Opeyemi, the State Adhoc Staff.

This training aimed to enhance the capacity of health educators to implement effective demand-generation strategies, thereby ensuring that women can easily and confidently access self-injection methods. By equipping these officers with the necessary tools and knowledge, ARFH is committed to integrating self-care practices within family planning programs, ultimately empowering women to take control of their reproductive health.

Enhancing The LGAs Health Educators’ Skills on Integrated Demand Generation on Family Planning Services in Niger State

ARFH Nigeria conducted an impactful training session in Minna, Niger State. The training aimed to equip participants with practical approaches to integrate self-injection into routine health promotion activities and develop demand generation strategies tailored towards self-injection uptake and other family planning services.

The training emphasized the importance of practical approaches for integrating self-injection into routine health promotion activities. It also focused on developing demand generation strategies specifically tailored towards increasing the uptake of self-injection and other family planning services. Additionally, fostering partnerships to enhance family planning service delivery was a key component of the training.

After the training, an action plan was developed for the three senatorial zones to strengthen family planning services and collaboration in Niger State.

Key attendees included representatives of the State Family Planning Coordinator, the State Health Promotion Officer, the Director of Primary Health Care, and the Director of Primary Health Care Chanchaga Local Government.

ARFH remains committed to improving reproductive health and ensuring accessible family planning services across Nigeria. This training session in Minna is a testament to our ongoing efforts to empower health educators and enhance community health outcomes.

Training of Health Educators on Integrated Demand Generation on Family Planning Services in Plateau State!

ARFH has taken a significant step forward in empowering women and enhancing reproductive health in Plateau State. We conducted a transformative training session for Health Educators at the Plateau State Primary Health Care Development Board Headquarters in Jos.

This session is part of our Community-Oriented DMPA-SC Self-Injection Acceleration (CODSAiN) Project, which focuses on scaling up self-injection uptake and supporting comprehensive outreach activities for demand generation.

Key attendees included esteemed guests such as Dr. Nanyak Ladan, Director of Primary Health Care, representing the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Primary Healthcare Board, and Dr. Yakubu Dauda Izang, Director of Disease Control and Immunization. Other notable attendees were Dorcas K. Ibrahim, DDNS; Asabe Mwansat, Family Planning Coordinator; Rifkatu Dung, State Health Educators; Rahila Telfim, State ad-hoc staff; and Odukogbe Samson, ARFH’s Knowledge and Communications Officer, who co-facilitated the training.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of LGA Health Promotion Officers by equipping them with the skills to implement effective demand-generation strategies. It also fostered collaboration between health promotion and family planning programs. This initiative empowers women to confidently and easily access self-injection methods, taking control of their reproductive health.
