Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) participated in the CIHP 4th Annual Scientific Roundtable Series at Fraser Suites, Abuja on 15th August 2024. The event focused on the theme: “The Missing Link: Reducing Vulnerabilities of Adolescents and Young Persons Through Sustainable Interventions.”

Representing ARFH was Dr. Kolapo Oyeniyi, Director of Programs, who stood in for the CEO Dr. Kehinde Osinowo. The roundtable brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including Dr. Fatima Jubrila, representative of the Special Assistant to the President on Health, Dr. Salma Anas, CIHP’s CEO Dr. Bolanle Oyeledun, and representatives from FMoH, NACA, NASCP, PEPFAR, CDC, UN Agencies, APYIN, Plan International, Action Health Inc., Jhpiego, FHI 360, University of South Carolina, PALSS, Viamo, IHVN, TA Connect and other prominent organizations.

Dr. Uwemedimo Uko Esiet, Co-Founder and Director of Action Health, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of improving Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for adolescents and young people in Nigeria. He called for enhanced adolescent empowerment and youth engagement, along with strategies to improve the economic prospects of young Nigerians.

The event also showcased CIHP’s achievements with the STEM Hub initiative, highlighting its impact on creating opportunities and engaging young girls through technology.

A key moment was the recognition and award presentation to AIG of Police Idowu Owohunwa for his outstanding leadership in expanding the response to Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

The roundtable event concluded with a panel discussion on leveraging technology and innovative approaches to empower vulnerable adolescent girls and young women in Nigeria. Representing ARFH alongside Dr Oyeniyi was Samson Odukogbe, Youth Focal Officer and Communications Officer.
