ARFH President/CEO Prof. O.A. Ladipo and his team paid a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, and other state stakeholders on Wednesday, 15th September 2021 to hand over the newly remodeled and equipped Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) to the state government for full operation. Before and during the COVID-19 crisis, girls and young women face significant barriers in accessing essential sexual and reproductive health information and services. Thus, UNFPA in collaboration with ARFH on “Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) under the UN Support to the National COVID-19 Multi-Sectoral Pandemic Response’’ project established ‘Abiyamo’, a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) inside the premises of Jericho Nursing Home, Ibadan, Oyo state.
The SARC is a one-stop-shop centre designed to offer confidential and safe information and services to girls and women at risk including survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). It will ensure the continuity and linkages to essential GBV/SRH services integrated with behavior change interventions needed to equip and empower vulnerable populations and indeed the general population against SGBV and other harmful traditional practices.
