ARFH CEO Joins USAID Team to Distribute Laptops to 90 Tech4AYP Beneficiaries in Lagos

The Tech4AYP Initiative under the Integrated Child Health and Social Services Award (ICHSSA-2) project has set a remarkable precedent in promoting digital inclusion and empowering vulnerable adolescents and young persons in Lagos. At a special ceremony, 90 beneficiaries received brand-new laptops, internet accessories, and subscriptions to support their journey into the tech space, an effort driven by the collaborative efforts of USAID and ARFH.

Hosted in Lagos, the event brought together key players, including representatives from USAID, ARFH, and major state agencies such as the Lagos State Commissioners of Youth and Social Development and Innovation, Science and Technology, as well as the National Information Technology Development Agency (NiTDA).

In her remakrs, Dr. (Mrs.) Kehinde Osinowo, CEO of ARFH emphasized ARFH’s commitment to equipping young people with relevant skills for national development, calling the initiative a “laudable effort” to prioritize youth empowerment.
Mrs. Doreen Magaji, USAID OVC Program Manager urged beneficiaries to maximize the tools and skills gained to enhance their well-being and contribute to their communities, reiterating USAID’s dedication to youth development.

The Tech4AYP Initiative aligns with USAID’s digital strategy and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leveraging technology to enhance livelihoods and drive social change. This 12-week training program provides hands-on experience, weekly assignments, and a capstone project graded under the NitHub curriculum, designed to meet the needs of participants.

Ninety (90) Adolescents and Case Managers were selected from 11 USAID-supported LGAs in Lagos, including Agege, Apapa, Ajeromi, Badagry, Kosofe, Ojo, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Shomolu, Surulere, and Ikorodu. They were trained in in-demand digital skills, including: Mobile App Development, Front-End Web Development, Product Design (UI/UX), Data Analytics and Graphics Design at the National Information Technology Hub (NitHub), University of Lagos (UNILAG), a leading center for tech innovation and learning.

The initiative underscores the transformative potential of digital skills in spurring economic growth, enhancing health and development outcomes, and lifting communities out of poverty. By equipping young people with tools for decent work and entrepreneurial opportunities, Tech4AYP not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters sustainable development and resilience among Nigeria’s youth.

The ICHSSA-2 Chief of Party, Dr. Felix Iwuala praised the collaborative efforts of USAID, ARFH, and other partners in enabling this impactful program. He emphasized the initiative’s alignment with broader objectives of empowering vulnerable populations to lead productive lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

The Tech4AYP Initiative is a testament to the power of partnerships and innovation in tackling socio-economic challenges. By equipping young individuals with digital skills, the program sets the stage for lasting change, bridging the gap between vulnerability and opportunity in a rapidly digitizing world.
