Advancing Health Advocacy: ARFH’s Dr. Kolapo Oyeniyi Chairs Panels on Digital Health, Youth Activism and SBC Interventions at the 3rd Health Promotion Conference

Today, at the 3rd Health Promotion Conference, ARFH’s Director of Programs, Dr. Kolapo Oyeniyi, chaired two compelling panel sessions, focusing on the transformative roles of digital health and youth activism in advancing health promotion practices across Nigeria.

In the first session, Dr. Abubakar Ibrahim Hassan, Head of the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education at Bayero University Kano and Executive Director of the Community Education and Health Promotion Initiative (CEHPI), delivered an engaging presentation on methods for youth-motivated health advocacy. Dr. Hassan highlighted creative approaches such as social media, art, music, and grassroots campaigns, which empower young people to advocate for health issues and drive change within their communities.

The second session featured Chizoba Onyechi from Breakthrough Action Nigeria BA-N, who presented on Coordinated Multichannel SBC Interventions for Health Promotion: essential elements for advancing wellbeing of Nigerians. Her presentation covered the social ecological model for SBC, mobile and digital engagement strategies, and the importance of Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE). She also discussed the roles of knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and efficacy in encouraging health service uptake.

Dr. Oyeniyi’s leadership in these sessions underscored ARFH’s commitment to leveraging innovation and youth energy to transform health promotion practices in Nigeria.
