Director, Finance

Job Description

The Director of Finance is responsible for ARFH’s long-term financial health and growth. S/he establishes strategies that will ensure resource efficiencies, oversees accounting and administrative operations, produces accurate reports on where money is going within the organization and improves or changes current practices to increase efficiency. S/he also participates in drawing up the annual budget and monitors its implementation, including regular forecasting and financial analysis.

Specific Responsibilities

Budgeting and Financial Management:

  • Establish finance policies, systems and procedures and direct its implementation.
  • Take lead on financial planning and budgeting, and provides guidance to program managers on same.
  • Monitor cash flow, maintain adequate funds and other treasury management.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports including Trial balance, budget tracking, and projects’ reports to donors and for management use.
  • Liaise with external auditors, banking officials, tax authorities, government officials, contractors and consultants.
  • Take lead in costing, cost sharing among various projects.

Project/Grants Management:

  • Develop and manage grants-making processes, disbursement systems according to donors’ financial standards and controls.
  • Work closely with donor contract officers to comply with terms of all grants.
  • Participate in proposal design and development, and take lead in budget preparation.
  • Conduct financial pre-award visits to potential sub-grantees to assess their managerial capability.
  • Take lead in development of contracts to sub-grantees and subcontractors.
  • Provide continuous technical assistance and training to sub-grantees and track their budget and expenditures.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with finance, programs and admin units on activities.
  • Take a lead in project closeout including final financial reporting, auditing, and preparing of inventory disposal plan.

Training and Capacity Building:

  • Involve in intensive hands-on-workshops aimed at strengthening the capacity of individuals and partner organizations on how to mobilize and manage the funds of the project including budgeting, and reports preparation.
  • Involve in public and private sector reform process, by providing trainings to participants from various private organizations and government.

Accounting and Financial Management:

  • Initiate, develop and monitor annual budgets including financial forecasts and produce monthly variance reports.
  • Process regular fund requests and ensure funds are disbursed appropriately.
  • Supervise the accountants and other finance staff in maintenance of proper accounting records; processing of financial transactions; administration of staff salaries; and preparation of monthly and end of the year financial statements.

Required Experience

  • Good knowledge of internal control systems, financial audit processes and accounting procedures for multiple donor or project accounts such as Global Fund, USAID, BMGF, etc.
  • Topnotch leadership and coordination skills.; reliable and self-motivated with good communication and presentation skills.
  • Superior problem solving skills with broad knowledge of business departments and their functions.
  • Strategic thinker.
  • Budget management experience and people-management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of HND/B.Sc. degree in Accounting or Social Sciences. Master’s in Business Admin/Financial Management and professional qualification of ACA/ACCA.is an added advantage
  • Must also have at least 10 years working experience in finance and administration with Non-Governmental organizations and INGOs. Also a demonstration of experience in the use of automated accounting systems (particularly QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint),
