INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY IS AUGUST 12: ARFH ADVOCATES FOR QUALITY HEALTH AND EDUCATION FOR YOUTH TO BUILD PEACE

IYD2017The International Youth Day is commemorated every year on 12th August to promote better awareness of the World Programme for Action for Youth (WPAY) a practical guideline of the United Nations’ agenda to improve the situation of youths around the world.
The Programme encourages people around the world to organize activities in commemoration of #InternationalYouthDay to raise awareness about the situation of youth in their respective countries.
According to the United Nations: “sustainable development cannot be realized without peace and security”, and since the 2030 sustainable development agenda is committed to fostering peace and inclusive societies, the theme of the #IYD2017 is “Youth Building Peace”.
The WPAY covers fifteen youth priority areas and the fields of action identified include: education, employment, hunger and poverty, health, environment, substance abuse, juvenile justice, leisure-time activities, girls and young women, participation of youth in the life of the society and decision-making, globalization, information and communication technologies, HIV/AIDS, armed conflict and intergenerational issues. .
The Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) is committed to improving the quality of life of vulnerable communities such as youths by promoting access to quality healthcare and harnessing community capacities towards achieving the sustainable development goals, and most objectives of the World Programme of Action for Youth.
Research and experiences have shown that when we invest in the health and well-being of young men and women, the ripple effect on their education, financial status, leisure time activities, goals, participation in the society, psychology and choices, will benefit their communities, the whole world and their eventual families, ensuring a continuous cycle of “Youth Building Peace”.
As a major stakeholder in the fight against communicable diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Nigeria, and as a foremost NGO in the field of reproductive health, ARFH will continue to promote information and services to ensure the good health, quality education and eventual socio-economic wellbeing of Nigerian Youths.
