25th WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK IS AUGUST 1 – 7 2017

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August all over the globe to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies around the world.
The theme for 2017 World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2017 is: “Sustaining Breastfeeding Together”.
#WBW2017 will call on advocates and activists, decision-makers and celebrants to forge new and purposeful partnerships. Together, let’s attract political support, media attention, participation of young people and widen our pool of celebrants and supporters. Only then can we campaign for a generation and commit to achieving the SDGs by 2030.
Each of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are directly and indirectly linked to breastfeeding.
The Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) will continue to promote information useful to the improvement of family health everywhere, especially in underprivileged communities.
ARFH encourages 6 – 12 months (or more) breastfeeding which provides nutrients and protection for babies from diseases like pneumonia.
Exclusive breastfeeding provides all micro-nutrients that infants need and is a sure intervention to decrease neonatal mortality.
The World Breastfeeding Week’s 25th year in 2017 is about working together for the common good, and this is in line with ARFH’s motto of “working together, building a healthier future”.
World Breastfeeding Week is coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), a global network of individuals and organizations concerned with the protection, promotion, and support of breastfeeding worldwide, based on the Innocenti Declarations, the Ten Links for Nurturing the Future, and the WHO/UNICEF Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding.
