Protecting Our Girls: Enugu and Kano Mobilize for HPV Vaccination

Building on the spark from FCT, Enugu and Kano lit up.

Across four LGAs in Enugu and Kano, halls filled with traditional rulers, CAN and Islamic leaders, WDC chairmen and focal persons, women and youth leaders, school heads, health workers, and partners. Questions met facts; doubt met data. We played a segment from the popular radio host-now sharing verified facts on air. Testimonials followed. Mobile device came out, word spread, and eligible girls arrived for vaccination.

Where readiness met standards, sleeves rolled up. Where basics fell short, we paused and fixed because trust is built on quality.

By day’s end, co-ownership was loud: pastors and imams will sermonize; school heads set mobilization plans; Enugu leaders requested engagement with Catholic bishops; enlightening handbills in English and local languages went into many hands; and more were requested. Momentum now shifts to in-school drives, supportive supervision, data validation, and Green Ember prep.

One dose. Age 9. Safe. Free. Protect her now.
