Nigeria commemorated its maiden Health Promotion Day today, a landmark event dedicated to advancing public awareness on health and well-being. The event had in attendance government officials and health advocates, including a representative of Dr. Salma Anas Kolo, the Special Adviser on Health to the President, as well as Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate; Daju Kachollom, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare; and Dr. Oyebanji Filani, Chairman of the Nigerian Health Commissioners Forum.
Representing ARFH were Prof. Oladipo Ladipo, President Emeritus; Dr. Kehinde Osinowo, CEO; Dr. Kolapo Oyeniyi, Director of Programs; and Samson Odukogbe, Communications Officer. The event also featured representatives from the UN, WHO, USAID, and other implementing partners.
During the occasion, the Health Minister unveiled the “10 Million Project”—a campaign branded “Know Your Number, Control Your Number”—urging Nigerians to monitor key health metrics. Additionally, he opened the 3rd National Health Promotion Conference, advancing the nationwide commitment to preventive health and wellness.
The inaugural Health Promotion Day is not only a milestone in Nigeria’s public health journey but also a testament to the growing recognition of preventive health as a crucial driver of national progress.
