On Tuesday 30th July, ARFH through its USAID funded ICHSSA-2 project supported the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development to hold the OVC Technical Steering Committee Meeting. The meeting which was coordinated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry ably represented by the Director of Administration had in attendance representatives from CAN, FOMWAN, AONN, ASHWHAN, NEPWHAN, CPN, LASUBEB, LASODA, NPoPc, MEPB among others. Each representative of the member organization gave an update about their work in improving the plight of Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Lagos State.
The OVC Technical Steering Committee (TSC) meeting provides a unique platform that brings together all relevant stakeholders (government and non-government) to maximize available financial and human resources in ensuring that the needs of the orphans and vulnerable children and their households are met. The TSC also serves to review and map out strategies for the implementation of the 4-year OVC operational plan that ARFH supported the Lagos MYSD to develop.
One of the critical successes of the TSC through its operation was the critical role it played in rallying all stakeholders and pushing for OVC budget line in Lagos State. It is gladdening to note that Lagos State now has a budget line for Orphans and Vulnerable Children. Effective coordination of OVC programming significantly improves the quality of life and well-being of all vulnerable children.
The ARFH ICHSSA-2 team present include Dr. Ayokanmi Mobereade, SPO, Ms Kemi Obalisa, Po-HES/PPP and Mr Gbadegesin Alawode, KCO.
