Dr. Kehinde Osinowo, ARFH CEO, was ably represented by Dr. Kolapo Oyeniyi, Director of Programs, at the momentous event of the launch of the State of World Population Report held at the Banquet Hall of the State House, today, 24th April 2024. The occasion brought together key stakeholders such as Dr. Natalia Kanem the ED United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate the Honourable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra the Chairman, National Population Commission (NPC), very senior government officials, Cristian Munduate UNICEF Country Representative and partner organizations.
During the event, Cristian Munduate the UNICEF Representative in Nigeria emphasised the collaborative effort of the UN system with national actors to reduce inequality and empower youth, adolescents, and children towards a fulfilling life.
Dr. Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of Unitedthe Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), underscored the importance of keeping girls in school, prioritising family planning, reducing inequality, preventing unintended pregnancies, combating HIV/AIDS, and lowering maternal mortality rates to unlock Nigeria’s demographic dividend potential.
The President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Honorable Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, reiterated the government’s commitment to the actualisation of the Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative which has led to the increased budget allocation for health in 2024, healthcare worker training, improved access to family planning resources, and efforts to enhance the well-being of women, children, and young people as long-term assets for national prosperity.
Other distinguished attendees at the launch included Sen. Mustapha Musa Chairman, Senate Committee on Population,Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, members of the legislative arm of government, Mrs Toyin Saraki, the Emir of Shonghai, FOMWAN representatives, religious leaders and traditional leaders, collectively demonstrating a united front towards advancing health and population welfare in Nigeria.
