MAPS (Malaria Action Program for States) Community Intervention Package


MAPS is a Five-year USAID grant (2010 – 2015) supported by the President Malaria Initiative (PMI) and managed by a consortium: FHI360 (formerly Academy for Educational Development), Malaria Consortium and Health Partners International. Project states are – Cross River, Nasarawa, Zamfara, Benue, Ebonyi, Oyo and Kogi. ARFH will be working in 9 LGA's in Oyo state namely Ogbomoso North, Ogbomoso South, Akinyele, Afijio, Egbeda, Lagelu, Oyo East, Oyo West and Ibadan South West.

GOAL:
  • To reduce the incidence of morbidity and mortality due to Malaria amongst vulnerable groups in 32 wards of nine LGAs in Oyo State through improved practice on malaria prevention in the community.

    STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE
    • Empower the 32 Ward Development Committees (WDC) to identify problems as regards malaria intervention within community and proffer a solution.

    INTERVENTIONS
    Strategic interventions being supported by MAPS on this project as outlined by the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) which are also global strategies for malaria control includes:
    • The use of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) by all age group particularly under five and pregnant women.
    • Provision of Intermittent Preventive Treatment (IPT) to pregnant women to prevent malaria in pregnancy.
    • Prompt and effective treatment for all age groups with fever diagnosed as malaria with the use of Artemisinin Based Combination Therapy (ACT).
    • Environmental Management.

    PERIOD OF IMPLEMENTATION
    The project life span is 3 years.
