Malaria Intervention Activities Conducted as Countdown to World Malaria Day 2016

CountdownAs part of countdown activities to World Malaria Day, commemorated every year on 25th April, a two-day exercise was held at Mpape community, Abuja on the 19th and 20th of April 2016.

The Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), the National Malaria Elimination Programme of the Federal Ministry of Health, partners from different organisations, many members of Mpape community along with their Chief, His Royal Highness Abubakar Ibrahim Gimba, took part in environmental sanitation and awareness creation on day 1, Tuesday, 19th April, clearing blocked drainages to reduce breeding sites for mosquitoes towards eliminating malaria, and sensitising the community.

Countdown2The next day, hundreds of people came out to the premises of Mpape Primary School for free malaria tests and treatment (for persons presenting with fever), as well as enlightenment on malaria prevention using Long Lasting Insecticidal treated Nets (LLIN).

The representative of the National Coordinator, National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), Mrs Itohowo Uko, appreciated ARFH for supporting the event noting that the exercise was successful.

The World Malaria Day is celebrated every year all around the world to create awareness on malaria prevention and treatment.
