ARFH’S ACTIVE TUBERCULOSIS CASE FINDING PROVES EFFECTIVE IN JIGAWA AND KADUNA STATES

Stop TB LogoUsing the active Tuberculosis (TB) case finding of house to house search, the number of TB cases detected in Nigeria’s Jigawa and Kaduna states have increased very significantly.

TB case notification in quarter 1 of 2016, compared to quarter 4 of 2015 rose from 470 to 617 and from 862 to 983 in Jigawa and Kaduna states respectively.

The active case finding is a strategic approach for increasing TB case detection being funded by the Global Fund New Funding Model (NFM) grant. It was commenced in February 2016 by Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) with the recruitment and training of 87 Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and 870 Community Tuberculosis Workers (CTWs).

This 31.3% and 14% increase in cases found and being treated in Jigawa and Kaduna states, respectively, means that progress is being made in the action plan to ‘find, treat and cure tuberculosis’ in Nigeria.
